Figma just released 3 new AI image editing tools that make it much easier to work with photography directly on the canvas.

You can now expand an image to new aspect ratios, erase distracting objects and isolate elements for more precise edits without leaving your file. For UI designers this means fewer trips to heavy image editors and faster iteration on heroes, product shots and marketing visuals in context.

In my latest video I walk through these tools in a real design workflow and test where they shine and where they fall apart. I try expanding backgrounds, cleaning up scenes and isolating objects while comparing the results to what would normally be done in Photoshop. The goal is not to declare a winner but to see when Figma’s AI tools are “good enough” to keep you in one place and when you still need a dedicated image editor for precise control.
